Mutasim Eltahir’s Journey from Sudan to India for Urological Cancer Treatment

A cancer diagnosis can change the way a person thinks about everyday life. For Mutasim Eltahir from Sudan, learning that he needed treatment for a urological cancer brought a long list of questions. He wanted to understand the condition properly, know what treatment was available, and find a specialist team before making an important decision.

Mutasim and his family began looking at treatment options outside Sudan. India became part of that search as they looked for specialised cancer and urological care. His medical reports and investigations were shared with the treating team so that his condition could be reviewed before he travelled.

The treatment discussions were an important part of Mutasim’s decision. He wanted straightforward answers about the proposed procedure, preparation, hospital stay, and recovery. Travelling from Sudan to India was not simply a medical trip. It meant leaving behind his normal routine and coming to an unfamiliar environment while preparing for treatment. The period immediately before treatment was one of the more difficult parts for Mutasim. Knowing that an operation or major procedure was approaching naturally brought some anxiety. Following treatment, his attention turned toward recovery. Mutasim understood that getting back to his usual routine would take time. He focused on rest, follow-up consultations, medication and the instructions provided by the medical team. Rather than expecting everything to improve at once, he took the recovery period day by day.

Being away from Sudan also made family support especially meaningful. Having someone close during appointments and the quieter moments after treatment gave him a familiar presence while he was far from home.

For Mutasim, the experience involved much more than the treatment itself. It was the process of understanding a difficult diagnosis, comparing options, travelling internationally, meeting a new medical team, and gradually working through recovery.

His journey to India gave him the opportunity to seek specialised urological cancer care while remaining closely supported by his family throughout the process.

Looking back on his experience, Mutasim said:

“After hearing the diagnosis, I realised that I needed to stop thinking only about the fear and start thinking about what I could do next. Choosing treatment in another country was a serious decision, and I wanted my family to be comfortable with it as well. Before the treatment, the doctors answered many of my questions and helped me understand the plan. Once the procedure was finished, I focused on getting through recovery patiently. Having my family with me made a difficult experience feel much more manageable.”
